Foundation awards 20 Southern Oregon groups Dec 10, 2002 12:00 AM A A Twenty Southern Oregon groups received grants totaling more than & 36;164,000 from the Oregon Community Foundation. The awards, announced in November, are part of OCF's efforts to strengthen charitable activities, organizers said. Grants have been awarded to the following groups: Health Care Coalition of Southern Oregon, Medford, & 36;48,000 from the William and Florence Schneider Fund to address high infant-mortality rates and related maternal-child health needs in Jackson County. Kids Unlimited of Southern Oregon, Medford, & 36;35,000 from the William and Florence Schneider Fund to sustain after-school child care and academic enrichment activities, summer programs, a youth arts collective and a teen dance club and social recreation center. Jackson County Library Foundation, Medford, & 36;15,000 to support coordination of a capital campaign for library enhancements and technology. ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum, Ashland, & 36;13,400 to support kindergarten through 12th-grade scientific literacy programs in Jackson, Josephine and Klamath counties and for general support. Kids Health Connection, Medford, & 36;12,000 to complete a new school-based health site at Oak Grove Elementary School. WinterSpring Center for Living with Loss and Grief, Medford, & 36;12,000 to support peer education and group support programs for bereaved youth. Southern Oregon University Foundation, Ashland, & 36;7,500 for the Konaway Nika Tillicum program. Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Medford, & 36;6,500 for purchase of medical equipment for home care of Rogue Valley Medical Center Hospice patients. Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Ashland, & 36;7,000 for a capital campaign, for the Bowmer Society and for general support. Bear Creek Greenway Foundation, Medford, & 36;1,575 for the Greenway extension project. Friends of Oregon Living Waters, Ashland, & 36;1,000 for the Wild and Scenic Rivers program. The Salvation Army of Jackson County, the United Way of Jackson County, the American Red Cross, Rogue Valley Chapter, all Medford, & 36;1,000 each for general support. Community Health Center, Community Works, Mercy Flights Inc., Southern Oregon Goodwill Industries, all of Medford, & 36;500 each for general support.
