Pleasant Hill upsets Henley boys 3A boys/girls state CORVALLIS -- Henley entered the boys Class 3A state basketball tournament on a roll: It was undefeated in the Skyline Conference and was ranked No. 1. But all that came to an end in the tournament's opening-round Tuesday at Gill Coliseum when Kevin Broderick-Kartye scored 26 points and No. 2 Pleasant Hill defeated the Hornets. Broderick-Kartye got 12 of his points in the third quarter to help Pleasant Hill (19-5) take a commanding 49-32 lead. A steal and a layup by Henley's Rick Warnick capped a 17-7 run that closed the gap to 58-51 with 1:52 to play. But Pleasant Hill made seven of the next eight free throws to seal the victory. Nash Langeliers added 19 points and Miles Sandgathe scored 17 for Pleasant Hill. Tim Frost led Henley (21-3) with 23 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots. STAYTON 49, HENLEY 36 -- Stayton (20-2) held Skyline Conference No. 2-seed Henley (15-8) to 11 second-half points and limited the Hornets to 28 percent shooting from the field in the game. Stayton's Casey Bunn tallied a game-high 20 points, grabbed six rebounds, dished out four assists and recorded two of her team's six blocked shots.
