The National Weather Service has instituted a hard freeze warning for a wide swath of southwest Oregon and northern California Thanksgiving Eve, stretching from Siskiyou County to Douglas County and over to the coast as far north as Reedsport. Temperatures are expected to drop as low as 20 degrees by Thanksgiving morning, with some outlying areas such as Ruch, Shady Cove, and Butte Falls dropping into the teens. "(Wednesday night) is expected to be the coldest night of the period with low temperatures well below freezing across the entire west side," the warning reads. Weather officials warned area homeowners to cover exposed pipes to reduce risk of damage. High temperatures Thanksgiving are not expected to get above the low-40s mark for much of Jackson County, though Medford could get slightly warmer. "Most places will stay under 40, but I wouldn't rule out getting above 40, maybe 41, 42," said meteorologist Michelle Cohen. Forecast overnight lows don't improve much the rest of the week, with Medford — typically one of the warmer areas in Jackson County — getting down into the low 20s through Saturday. Tuesday snow has piled up in some spots across the region. Forecasters reported 12 inches at Diamond Lake, with eight inches reported at Fish Lake and Crater Lake, six inches at Mt. Ashland, and about five on the Siskiyou Summit. Parts of Ashland also got dusted, with reports of an inch and a half hitting the ground, Cohen said.
