Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend January 6, 2006 Eagles soar to win over Indians Prep Wrestling ROSEBURG — Eagle Point continued its winning ways Thursday with a 35-24 victory over Roseburg in a Southern Oregon Conference wrestling dual meet. The fourth-ranked Eagles (8-0) notched four pins en route to the victory over the third-ranked Indians. "It was a good performance for us," said Eagle Point coach Kacey McNulty. "The crowd was kind of rowdy, so it was nice to pull out a win at their place." Eagle Point’s Kevin Leonardo started the match by pinning Blake Cordell in 5:30 at 125 pounds. Randy Pershall moved up a weight class to defeat Roseburg’s Jake Spears, the state’s fourth-ranked wrestler at 130 pounds. "Our first two guys stepping out there and wrestling the way they did was big," said McNulty. "We also had a bunch of guys get put on their backs but managed to fight back. Second-ranked Jake McCoy (160) also scored a fall for the Eagles against Niko Karpontinis in 1:40, while No. 1-ranked Chris Platt (171) needed just 31 seconds to pin Adam Brink and Tyler Cam (275) 29 seconds to take out Luke Sugrue. The Pirates got a quality win from Shayne Tourville at 119 pounds. Tourville pinned Larry Ragsdale, who won a title at the Rogue Valley Classic last Saturday. Henley led 33-22 going into the final three matches, but the Knights scored three straight falls. Giesen, a defending three-time state champion, began the rally with a pin in 32 seconds against Eric Schneider at 189 pounds. Nathan Rankin (215) followed with a fall for the Knights, then Olander’s pin at 275 over Douglas Byrum gave North Valley (1-0 Skyline) the victory.
