A Jackson County grand jury Thursday indicted Ron Glick, 35, on one count of murder. Autopsy results show that 28-year-old Dawn Glick was strangled to death in her Spring Street home. "I would not put it past him that he would do this," said 23-year-old Jenesta Chesley, who lived next door to the Glicks for several years. Police say that on Monday morning Ron Glick went to his wife’s house and killed her while the couple’s 3-year-old son, Caden, was there. He then drove the boy to his parents’ home near Ashland. The family became concerned for Dawn’s safety and called police, who found her dead in her bedroom closet. Dawn Glick filed for divorce late last year. Seeking a restraining order against her husband, which was granted in January, she claimed he had held a gun to her head, threatened to kill her, thrown her to the ground, kicked her and pulled her hair over the course of their eight-year marriage. Neighbors remembered the couple’s frequent fights. The morning after, Dawn often had bruises on her face and neck, they said. Lona Chesley, 46, said she encouraged Dawn to get help when she saw the marks of Ron Glick’s fingers around her young neighbor’s collarbone. "She said, ‘I don’t have anyone to help me,’" Lona Chesley recalled. Although Dawn Glick rarely talked about herself or her past, in particular, close friends said they knew her parents were shot to death in their home when she was in grade school. No one was prosecuted for the crime. Dawn was adopted by L. Rex Butz and his wife, Cynthia — relatives of Ron Glick. Dawn met Ron in Southern California when she was 12 years old, friends say. The couple moved to the Rogue Valley about 10 years ago and were married. "She was never really allowed to be a teenager," said Echo Hutto, who said she met Dawn shortly after the Glicks moved to the area. The Chesleys remember a timid young wife who rarely left her immaculate house although her husband frequented local bars and played in pool tournaments. Dawn kept conversations with neighbors short, worrying that she should return home before Ron showed up, they said. "He was a drinker; he was belligerent; he didn’t get along with his neighbors. He didn’t want to get along with anybody," Lona Chesley said, adding that Ron Glick’s wife was the exact opposite. "We’re talking so sweet that she was constantly checking herself to make sure she was doing everything the right way." Friends of the Glicks said they often commented on the mismatched couple. Photos of Dawn show a 5-10, blue-eyed blonde who had to duck her head when she wore high heels to avoid towering over her 5-9 husband. But the smile she always wore in public belied her private life, friends said. "You know she was terrified every day looking over her shoulder," said 35-year-old Cindra Dyer. Dawn had recently moved into the Spring Street home and was working at Wells Fargo. Yet she was considering leaving the Rogue Valley, which may have been enough to "snap" Ron, said 29- year-old Teresa Farmen, Dawn Glick’s friend. Ron Glick will appear in Jackson County Circuit Court Wednesday at 1:45 p.m. to hear the charge against him. He faces life in prison with a minimum 25-year incarceration. He remains jailed without bail. Dawn Glick’s memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ashland Christian Fellowship on Hersey Street.
