WILD ROGUE PRO RODEO: Professional bull riding, barrel racing, roping, bronc riding and steer wrestling with competitors from throughout the Northwest will be presented Friday-Sunday, Oct. 13-15, at the Jackson County Expo Park, 1 Peninger Road, Central Point. Wagon rides for children will be available one hour before each show, and rodeo clown Dale Woodard will be featured. Shows begin at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday. Call 488-9698. HISTORIC WALKING TOURS: Ben Truwe unlocks the secrets of the past during his "Haunted Brothels and Opium Dens of Medford" walking tours offered at 11 a.m. Saturdays. Find out where Medford residents "lynched the knocker and burned the hammer." The free tours last about two hours and are suitable for all ages. CEMETERY TOURS: Meet some of the pioneers and settlers of the Rogue Valley when the Jacksonville Boosters Club offers guided tours of Jacksonville's Historic Cemetery on Saturday, Oct. 14 and 21. Costumed performers will interpret the spirits of the cemetery's residents and offer their tales of the Civil War, wagon trains, gold mining, Indian attacks, epidemics and homesteading. The cemetery was platted in 1859 and is one of the oldest in the Pacific Northwest. Visitors will meet historical figures such as Julia Hoffman Beekman, who crossed the Oregon Trail with her family; Jacob Ish, who sold his Virginia plantations to settle in Oregon; Dorland Robinson, who committed suicide after a failed marriage and William Bybee, a speculator who became one of the largest land holders in the valley. Tours will leave by bus every ten minutes between 5 and 7:30 p.m. from the parking lot on West D Street to the top of Cemetery Hill. The tours last about one hour and cost $8 ($7 in advance), $5 for children or $20 per family. Tickets are available at the Jacksonville Visitors Bureau or at tour departure. Call 899-8118. BREWS AND BOOGIE: Ales and lagers from Caldera Brewing Company, Deschutes Brewery, Etna Brewing Company, Standing Stone Brewery and Walkabout Brewing Company, along with live music by the Rogue Suspects, the Craig Wright Band and the New Autonomous Folksingers, will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at ScienceWorks Museum, 1500 E. Main St., Ashland. The event will include a beer-making demonstration and raffles for passes to the Mount Ashland Ski Area, tours of local breweries, restaurant certificates and spa treatments. The museum also offers self-directed and instructed arts and crafts projects, storytelling activities and a full-service café. STORYTELLING AT THE LIBRARY: Veteran storyteller Sarah Stein will present a seasonal program of not-so-scary stories titled "Thrills But No Chills" for children in kindergarten through the fifth grade on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 17 and 18, at three branches of the Jackson County libraries. In the spirit of the season, children are invited to wear costumes, but no masks or makeup. Healthy snacks will be served 30 minutes before each performance. RAILROAD PARK: Medford's Railroad Park will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, before it closes for the winter season. The park is home to the Southern Oregon Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society, the Rogue Valley Model Railroad Club, the Southern Oregon Live Steamers, the Southwest Oregon Large-Scale Trains and the Morse Telegraph Club. Activities at the park include small-scale steam and diesel train rides, and displays of full-size and miniature trains, a historic locomotive and caboose and an antique telegraph service. The park is at Table Rock Road and Berrydale Avenue, just a few blocks north of the Rogue Valley Mall. Admission is free; donations to maintain and expand the park are accepted.
