Centennial puts an end to Meunier era GRESHAM - The late-season swoon by the Crater softball team came to a dramatic but disappointing finish in coach Mike Meunier's final game on Friday. The Comets, who finished with eight losses in their final 11 games, loaded the bases in their final at-bat but couldn't push a run across in 4-3 sub-tournament loss to Centennial. Kelly Thomas started the seventh-inning rally with a one-out single and, sandwiched around the second out, Kara Ray and Heather Quinn loaded the bases with back-to-back singles. Thomas broke for home on a wild pitch with the possible tying run but was tagged out in a close play at the plate to end the game. "We struggled in the last part of the season," said Meunier reflecting on his final season at the helm after nine years of leading the Comets. "We had a tough time getting hits and couldn't seem to make them fall. "We're a pretty young team, though, and a little inconsistent, which is to be expected from a young team." Despite their hitting struggles late in the season, Crater tallied nine in the finale. "We hit the ball pretty well," said Meunier. "but didn't play great defense and issued a few walks." Quinn had two hits to lead Crater, who finished the season 16-11. Centennial will play at McNary on Tuesday.
