[Oregon Department of Transporation photo] Drivers should watch for roadwork as Knife River Construction carries out two safety improvement projects at high-crash intersections along Highway 140 in White City and Highway 99 in Central Point. In White City, Knife River plans to start work Monday on a $1.7 million intersection improvement project at Highway 140 and Lakeview Drive. The high-crash location will see new turn lanes built for traffic turning off the highway onto Lakeview Drive, according to Oregon Department of Transportation. The north turn onto Lakeview Drive into White City neighborhoods will be closed for the first stage of construction. White City neighborhood traffic should seek alternate routes. The southbound side of Lakeview Drive will remain open to traffic, ODOT said. In Central Point, construction began in mid-December on a safety project on Highway 99 at Scenic Avenue. The $3.5 million project includes new traffic signals and roadway markings, pedestrian curb ramps that meet Americans with Disabilities Act requirements and an upgraded railroad crossing and signals, ODOT said. Several full night and weekend closures are planned on both sides of Scenic Avenue to complete the project, ODOT said. While the contract end date is October 2023, Knife River officials say they likely will finish the project by this summer. The railroad crossing and signal upgrades are under a separate contract overseen by Central Oregon and Pacific Railroad. An open house on the Highway 99 and Scenic Avenue project is planned from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Jan. 26, at the nearby Jackson County Fire District 3 fire station, 1909 Scenic Ave.
