Player-of-year Yates leads SOU all-star choices Southern Oregon running back Griff Yates was named offensive player of the year and four of his teammates made the first team in Columbia Football Association all-star voting. Yates is the school's first two-time offensive player of the year. Yates, a junior, was joined on the first team by senior slotback Casey Jackson, senior defensive back Will Salade of North Medford, junior defensive lineman R.J. Josephson of Eagle Point and junior linebacker J.D. Callicoatt. Jackson was also named a first-team punt returner and is the school's first four-time offensive all-star. Yates rushed for 1,594 yards and scored 120 points to lead the CFA in both categories. His season total brings his career rushing yardage to 3,477. He needs 665 to break the Northwest small-college record of 4,141, set by Lewis & Clark's Dan Ruhl from 1987-91. Josephson was a unanimous selection on the first team. Southern Oregon players named to the second team were senior defensive lineman Gerald Breymann, junior defensive back J.J. Jedrykowski and senior wide receiver Mike Long. Honorable mention selections from Southern Oregon were senior linebackers Jason Drake and Jon Avalos and senior defensive back Brandon Pierceall.
