The package was discovered Monday at the rural White City department offices just as similar reports were coming in statewide, so sheriff's deputies followed the department's hazardous materials response protocol, sheriff's Capt. Nathan Sickler said. The sheriff's main building on the 5000 block of Crater Lake Highway was evacuated for about three hours, shuttering department's civil and records divisions but not hampering patrols that remained on the streets, Sickler said. The package was turned over to the FBI for investigation, Sickler said. Sickler declined to reveal any details about the package, including to whom it was addressed, whether it was opened or whether any foreign substances were found in it. The Oregon State Police said Monday afternoon that its agency was investigating the cases. The agency said in a news release Monday evening that some of the packages received at government buildings contained suspicious contents, but the OSP did not reveal what those substances appeared to be. The OSP also did not report how many government buildings were targeted nor identify any of them. In the fall of 2012, Oregon was one of four states that were hit with serial telephone bomb threats at 28 county courthouses across Oregon, including the Jackson County Courthouse and Justice Center.
