CRIME Medford man sentenced for role in drive-by shooting Bullets went through toddler's bedroom A 21-year-old Medford man pleaded guilty Tuesday to taking part in a drive-by shooting and delivery of methamphetamine Comment By Vickie Aldous Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Vickie Aldous Mail Tribune Posted Jun. 23, 2015 at 5:03 PM Updated Jun 23, 2015 at 5:26 PM By Vickie Aldous Mail Tribune Posted Jun. 23, 2015 at 5:03 PM Updated Jun 23, 2015 at 5:26 PM » Social News James Conoyer was sleeping on his living-room couch when bullets began flying through his Medford home. After the gunfire stopped, Conoyer looked in the bedroom where his 2-year-old daughter normally sleeps. Luckily, she hadn't been in her bedroom the night of Dec. 8, 2014. "There was a bullet hole right above her crib right where she stands up and calls for me at night," Conoyer said Tuesday during a plea and sentencing hearing for Justinn Lynn Casaday. Casaday, 21, of Medford pleaded guilty to attempt to commit first-degree assault with a firearm and first-degree criminal mischief for his role in the drive-by shooting at the house that night. Hours before the shooting, an occupant of the house had chased off a group of people suspected of dealing drugs in front of the house, Medford police said. Counts charging Casaday with also taking part in a drive-by shooting that riddled an electronics business with bullets were dismissed in the plea agreement. After the shootings, police found a handgun, rifle, bullets, spent shell casings, methamphetamine, packaging materials and scales in Casaday's vehicle, along with heroin in his sock, according to affidavits. Casaday also pleaded guilty Tuesday to delivery of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school. He was sentenced to two years and 10 months in prison in the cases. Casaday has been held in Jackson County Jail on $1 million bail since he was lodged there Dec. 10, 2014. A 17-year-old male also was arrested in connection with the drive-by shooting and taken to Jackson County's juvenile detention facility. Court records about the resolution of that case were not available. Staff reporter Vickie Aldous can be reached at 541-776-4486 or [email protected] .
