But only if they are among the first 20 to reserve time slots today at the Rogue Valley chapter of the American Red Cross office in Medford. The Red Cross event, called "Project Video Connect: We’re Here Until They’re Home," is possible because of contributions of special equipment from AOL for Broadband, VIDISolutions Inc. and Hewlett Packard. The equipment is being brought to Medford from the Siskiyou chapter of the American Red Cross in Yreka. The Medford chapter is one of about 100 Red Cross and United Service Organizations offices worldwide that has access to one of the sophisticated computer stations. Families who receive reservations will each be given a 20-minute appointment to create their two-minute messages, which will then be sent to Iraq, according to Janet Miller, a local Red Cross official. Advertisement "Space is extremely limited, so people should call early to make sure they get a spot," she said. Because of time constraints, only 20 families will be allowed to send messages, she said. "They will do the video, then it will be played back for them," she said, adding they will be given a second chance if they feel they need it. Iraq is 11 hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time. When families call in for reservations, they will be given instructions on how to prepare for making the video messages, she said. The families need to have the name, rank, company and e-mail address of the person they want to send the message to, Miller said. To make an appointment, call the American Red Cross office in Medford at 779-3773 today. Ask for video connect reservations. The office, at 60 Hawthorne St. in Medford, is open from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. weekdays.
