Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said Evan Osman, 36, was arrested after police used spike strips to stop the stolen Subaru Legacy he was driving. Osman is being held in Deschutes County Jail on more than $2 million bail on two counts of second-degree robbery and one count of fourth-degree assault, stemming from the strong-arm robbery around 4 p.m. of a couple in their 70s in the parking lot of Medford Medical Clinic. Police said the couple were getting into their vehicle when Osman approached them, claiming to be armed and demanding the man's wallet. Osman allegedly ripped the 78-year-old woman's purse off her shoulder, injuring her shoulder and breaking her finger. "It was a very brutal attack and not something we typically see around here," Budreau said. "When we see person robberies, and the persons are unknown to each other, that's concerning." Budreau said the woman actually chased Osman and managed to get the numbers and two of the letters of the car's license plate, but she didn't get the state or the third letter. "It would have been a hard one to solve had he not been apprehended," Budreau said. Osman allegedly threatened the owner of the Subaru before stealing it in Eugene earlier in the day, Budreau said. Police said Osman had no known local connections and appeared to have been passing through Medford at the time of the robbery. Reach reporter Thomas Moriarty at 541-776-4471 or [email protected] .
