Charles "Charlie" Snyder August 27, 1953 - April 19, 2015 Rock-and-Roll Heaven gained another member as it welcomed longtime Rogue Valley Radio Personality R. Charles Snyder. Charlie passed away April 19, 2015, from complications of Crohn's disease. He was born August 27, 1953, on the Naval Base in San Diego, to Robert M. and Lois I. Snyder. When Charlie was 3, his family moved to Brookings. Charlie’s father was a musician in the U.S. Navy Band, which ignited Charlie’s passion for music early in his life. In the sixth grade he started playing the saxophone at Azalea Middle School. While at Brookings-Harbor High School he started playing Bass with his four friends - Bill, Kurt, Rob, and Kelly - and started the “Ultimate Reality” rock band and played drums in many rock bands since, including "357." He married Sheryl Wenier in 1973 in Brookings. Soon after, the couple moved to Medford. In 1974 Charlie began his music career in radio at KYJC in Medford. He continued his career at KBOY, KAGO in Klamath Falls, KTMT The Morning Zoo with “Dano” Cheek, and his last position at KCNA 102.7 The Drive in Medford. Charlie considered The Drive to be his most rewarding position. Charlie was a generous performer and helped with many causes for the community throughout his long career. He always said he loved music and it was his passion. He was also an avid fan of James Bond and had an extensive collection of all types of Bond memorabilia. He even attended the movie premieres of Octopussy in 1983 and Living Daylights in 1987 in London. In 1995, he attended the premiere of Goldeneye in New York City. In 1976, Charlie became the longtime announcer at the Southern Oregon Speedway. He always had a passion for racing. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was his favorite driver. Survivors include his father, Robert Snyder; two sons, Travis and Sean; his wife, Linda Adams and her children, Jeremy, Spencer, and April; siblings, Kathy Sallander, Kelly Hall, and Mike Snyder all of Brookings; aunts, Lore Burgess of Nurnberg, Germany and Cleo Hutchinson Wilson of Talent; cousins, Ron, Steve, and Brian Burgess and Dave Hutchinson, Donna Hutchinson Webber, and Scott Hutchinson. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Zane, Nathan, Savanna, Sara, Ruby, Auden, and Rowyn. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Ione Bakke and his grandparents. A Life Celebration will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2015 at Britt Gardens Stage, in Jacksonville.
