Harry & David sends cakes to G.I.s G.I. Joe & Jane will get a special Christmas gift this year from the folks at Harry & David. The world's largest mail-order fruit and giftbox company will airlift 2,000 boxes of its trademark Chocolate Decadence and Fruit Confection cakes to Bahrain today for distribution to U.S. military personnel involved in Operation Desert Fox. Harry & David spokesman Bill Ihle said a previous shipment during the Gulf War drew a gracious thank-you note from none other than Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf. "Thank you very much for the cookies," the beefy Allied commander wrote after the fighting was over. "I ate a few, but unfortunately I could not eat more because I have to keep my fit figure. My staff had no problems finishing them off." Ihle said the 2000 Chocolate Decadence and Fruit Confection cakes represented a $36,900 value, not including shipping them 9,000 miles to Bahrain, an island nation in the Persian Gulf. Sen.
