In the opener, Tra Kucera was 2-for-3 with a triple, double, five RBIs and one run scored, Teanna Gonsalves 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Alex Barry 2-for-3. Sarah Thomas earned the win after allowing four hits and no walks with eight strikeouts in four innings. In Game 2, the Black Tornado (11-4, 10-2 SWC) trailed until the sixth inning, when it scored nine runs to pull away. Grace Jovanovic went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, two runs and two stolen bases, Kucera 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs and Gabby Rosales 2-for-4 with a triple, double, two RBIs and two runs. Rylan Austin and Olivia Lethlean each added two hits. Thomas improved to 9-2 after giving up five hits, one earned run and no walks with six strikeouts in four innings of work against Willamette (3-10, 2-10). “We hit the ball really well today,” North head coach Mike Mayben said. “Willamette played really well in the second game and we played well, just late.” North next will host undefeated Grants Pass on Tuesday. Read finished 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs and Gianni Pippa-Baker added a two-run double to spark the Grizzlies (10-8, 4-6 MWL). Grace Lenthe went 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI to lead Ashland in the opener, with Anay Philpott and Emerald Hayes also driving in a run against Churchill (13-5, 9-2). In Game 1, Rogue River’s Josie Pratt and Alyssa Sands each had three hits and three RBIs, Kobie Gibson recorded three hits and two RBIs and Marina Hall hit a three-run triple. In Game 2, Hall was 4-for-4 with four RBIs, Pratt had two singles and Jazmien Blank added a three-run double for the Chieftains (11-4, 3-0 SCL).
