An alternative cross-section for the m inor arterial w ould provide on-street parking in lieu of the center
median or left turn lane. This could be accommodated within the sam e right-of-way as previously
described. Curb-to-curb dim ensions for this altern ative would include two 12-foot travel lanes, two 7-
foot parking aisles and two 5-foot bicy cle lanes for a paved street width of 48 feet. The addition of two 5-
foot sidewalks and two 10-foot planter strips would require a total ROW width of 78 feet. This cross-
section should only be used where there is a clear need for on-street parking to support adjacent
developm ent such as in the downtown core area or a Transit-Oriented District.
Table H-5 also illustrates changes from arterial to a minor arterial classification along 10 street segm ents
within the Medford UGB. These changes ty pically reflect the lower traffic volum es and lower through
traffic-m oving function of these facilities in comparison with those that were identified for m ajor arterial
classification. Additionally , in som e instances, ro adway s proposed for m inor arterial classification
currently have only a 2 to 3 lane cr oss-section and it would be difficult to justify a street widening to meet
the City ’s existing arterial street design standards (which require four travel lanes with left turn
channelization).
