The senior striker continued his impressive scoring streak by posting four goals against overmatched South Umpqua on Thursday as the Crusaders cruised to an 8-1 nonconference victory over the visiting Class 3A opponent in boys soccer. MacDiarmid has 24 goals on the season, and defending Class 2A/1A state champion St. Mary’s moved to 8-0. "It’s pretty amazing," said Crusaders’ coach Matt Faurot of MacDiarmid’s streak. "He just continues to make plays for us." MacDiarmid opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, then followed senior Eric Malchiori’s first-ever goal in the 26th with another score to hand St. Mary’s a 3-0 lead at the half. Advertisement MacDiarmid posted his final two goals in the 42nd and 53rd minutes — the former assisted by Dash Hillgartner. Austin Grant also played a key role in the St. Mary’s rout with a goal and three assists. "I’d say (Grant) had the best performance out there," said Faurot. "He was really controlling the tempo, and he controlled our passing game." Junior Jarrett Moran headed in his first career goal in the 63rd and Sam Moore tallied in the 67th.
