Vikings knock out Pirates Nov 16, 2014 12:00 AM A A KLAMATH FALLS — The Mazama football team shut out Phoenix, 48-0, in the Class 4A state quarterfinals on Saturday. The Vikings — who also beat the Pirates, 54-0, on Oct. 24 — will next play North Bend in their first-ever semifinal appearance. Dallas Devry connected with Jon Cran on a 32-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring, and Mazama cruised from there. The Pirates (8-2) were held to 125 total yards, while the Vikings (10-0) went for 347. Phoenix quarterback Triston Hay finished 8-for-25 passing for 97 yards and an interception. He rushed 16 times for 23 yards. Tyler Hague had four catches for 51 yards and Cole George four grabs for 46 yards for the Pirates, who got within 10 yards of the end zone twice. The Vikings recorded a fourth-down stand at the 1-yard line just before halftime. Water Polo ASHLAND TAKES THIRD: At Corvallis, the Ashland boys and girls water polo teams both earned wins to finish in third place at the state tournament. The Grizzly boys beat Marist, 15-7. Tristan Gavin had eight goals, two assists and five steals, Devon Lancaster recorded three goals, three steals and three assists and goalkeeper Vincent Wright blocked 11 shots and had five steals and two assists. The Ashland girls downed Summit, 12-9. Sabrina Scoggin had four goals, five assists and four steals, Leilani Sukles recorded three goals, three assists and three steals and goalkeeper Kyilyn Boehm made nine blocks with one steal.
