Woman's body found as snow melts away A missing White City woman was found dead Saturday near where her abandoned car was discovered last week northwest of Sams Valley. A K-9 unit found the body of Mary Ann Lehre, 75, just before 4 p.m. Saturday about 20 feet off East Evans Creek Road. That was about 100 yards from where an Oregon State Police cadet discovered her white Ford Escort on the upper part of East Evans Creek Road Thursday morning. Although searchers had been looking for her in the remote area since late Thursday night, her body had been covered by snow. The snow had begun to thaw Saturday. Lehre, who was wearing a light windbreaker and slacks, had Alzheimer's disease in the early stages. "No one knows" where Lehre was headed when she became lost, Oregon State Police Lt. Terry Simons said. Lehre lived alone. Except for attending church, she pretty much kept to herself, a neighbor at her mobile home park said Saturday night. Lehre apparently became lost in the area sometime in January. Hunters told police they saw Lehre's abandoned car on East Evans Creek Road Jan. 30. The car was high-centered in ruts on the dirt road, and a rock and log were placed under the front wheel in what looked like an attempt to get the car unstuck.
