Police don’t know if the stabbings are related, but they are considering the possibility, Medford police Lt. Mike Moran said. The first stabbing was reported about 2 a.m. Monday. A man who was camped under the Jackson Street bridge went to the Red Lion Hotel, 200 N. Riverside Ave., and reported that he had been robbed, assaulted and stabbed, Moran said. The man had a minor stab wound to his buttock and was taken to Providence Medford Medical Center for treatment. The man told police that he was under the bridge, camped on the west side of Bear Creek, when three men who looked to be in their 20s and wore jerseys of some sort attacked him. He described one of the attackers as 6 feet tall and said the other two were shorter. They were last seen running north along a path toward the Knight’s Inn Motel, 500 N. Riverside Ave., Moran said. Advertisement Shortly after 9 p.m. Monday, a second, similar attack was reported near the site of the early morning stabbing, Moran said. In the second stabbing, a homeless man was asleep under the Fourth Street bridge when two teenagers who looked between 15 and 18 years old woke him up, demanded money and stabbed him in the arm and back, Moran said. He staggered to a nearby Taco Bell at 448 E. Jackson St. His wounds weren’t life-threatening, but he was taken by ambulance to Rogue Valley Medical Center. Officers flooded into the area Monday night and talked to people, but didn’t track down the suspects, Moran said. Detectives continued to work the case Tuesday and patrol officers are developing a strategy to keep a close eye on the area, he said. Although both victims were transients, the suspects in the stabbings might not be, he said. Anyone with information on the incidents can call police at 770-4783.
