Central Ave. Participants speak Spanish for half of the hour, and English for the second half. Stories and exercises help conversation flow. The event is free and no registration is necessary. Daspit will speak about the research she did for her novel set in the 1870s "Lucy Lied" from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at the Medford library, 205 S. Central Ave. Call 541-774-8679 or see www.jcls.org. Wednesday Free Admission Day at ScienceWorks: The museum, 1500 E. Main St., Ashland, hosts exhibits year-round that explore energy, anatomy, chemistry, perception, motion, engineering and more.The exhibit Toy Science opens Saturday, Nov. 22, and runs through January with game-style exhibits demonstrating physics, math and strategy. The popular exhibit Sportsology has returned to the museum and features Vertical Vault, Action Reaction Wall, Great Grip, Wheelchair Racer, Pitching Cage and Hang Time. Visitors can test their athletic abilities while learning how their bodies work. The Sportsology exhibit will run until March 1. Admission costs $9, $7 for children 2 to 12 and adults older than 65. Admission is free on the first Wednesday of every month. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday in the fall, winter and spring. Hawk Workshop: Local hawk expert and Klamath Bird Observatory board member Dick Ashford will lead a hawk identification workshop from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Klamath Bird Observatory headquarters, 320 Beach Street, Ashland. Following will be an all-day field trip to the Klamath Wildlife Refuge Saturday, Jan. 10. Total cost for both events is $25. Email [email protected]. Thursday Letter Writing Week: Keep the idea of handwritten letters from fading into the past by visiting a letter-writing pavilion Thursday through Friday, Jan. 8-16, at the Central Point library, 116 S. Third St. Cards, stationery, paper, pens, pencils, envelopes, and stamps will be provided. Create a handwritten letter to mail to someone special.
