Prep swimming Ashland boys, girls post wins Ashland High's boys and girls each came away with team victories in District 6 swimming against North Medford and South Medford Saturday at the Medford Family YMCA. This was the final competition until the district swim meet Feb. 12-13 at the Southern Oregon University pool. Brad Scoles paced the Grizzlies to the boys' team win with two individual wins and a relay victory. Ashland's boys totaled 148 points compared to 75 for South and 50 for North. Adam Foley and Dustin Asher each posted individual wins for the Grizzlies and were part of Ashland's victorious 200-medley relay. William Adrian stood out for South Medford with victories in the 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly and the 400 freestyle relay. The girls competition was closer, with Ashland securing the win with 120 points. South Medford was second with 94, while North Medford tallied 93. Ashley Brace excelled for Ashland with a pair of individual victories to go along with a winning relay leg. Ashley Johnson and Ashley Stewart had strong meets for South. Johnson won two events and Stewart one. Both swimmers were on South's winning 400 freestyle relay. PHOENIX SWEEPS -- At Klamath Falls, both the Phoenix boys and girls won, and in convincing fashion. On the boys side, Kris Keizerand Jake Helfrich led the way, winning two events each. The Phoenix boys dominated the meet, winning all of the events except for the 100 backstroke. The Phoenix boys also swept all of the relays. The other top finishers for the boys were Ryan Gold, Tony Byrd and Matt Phlatt. On the girls side, it was consistency that keyed the triumph. The girls had more second- and third-place finishes than they did firsts. Leading the way for the Pirates was Tristen Clouse, who took second in the 200 free and the 500 free.
