Senior Jeff Bentley became the school’s first two-time javelin All-American since 1966 with a fifth-place heave of 199 feet, 6 inches, while senior all-star distance runner Liana Bernard is the school’s first 10,000-meter All-American by virtue of a fourth-place performance. Junior Megan Heuberger came within seven hundredths of a second from repeating as an All-American in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with a seventh-place 1:03.60 clip in the championship round. As a team, the SOU women placed 37th among 60 scoring teams at the three-day event, while the Raider men were 53rd. Advertisement Bentley, who posted the NAIA’s longest javelin toss during the regular-season (a career-best 213-7), finished as a four-time Cascade Conference champion and a three-time All-American, including his accomplishments as a freshman at Oregon Tech. Bernard’s 37:29.12 in the 10K was a personal-best by 14 seconds and was the school’s third-fastest time ever. Senior Joe Sheire, who advanced to the national semifinals in the intermediate hurdles, and freshman Jon Hill (17th in the long jump, 21-10¼ ) were top conference placers. Freshmen Brynn Cogdill, who clocked a collegiate-best 2:18.32, Hadley Roe and junior Travis Floeck had All-American hopes dashed in the 800-meter national semifinal round. The women’s 4x100 relay squad of Heuberger, Andrea Eide, Rachel Hinze and Kendra McGrath placed 10th in the semifinals, .83 away from earning a spot in the finals. The women’s 4x400 relay team (Heuberger, Eide, Hinze and Brook Jaentsch) was 13th in the semifinal round with a season-best 3:58.98, the fourth-fastest overall season clip by a Raider quartet.
