The result was a 41-13 Southern Cascade League-opening football triumph for the Challengers, who improved to 3-0 overall. Mychal Sha scored three touchdowns, and Jon Gettman passed for 211 yards and two scores for Cascade Christian. Early in the third quarter, Glendale, which continues to deal with the recent death of a player, put together what coach Steve Prock called "probably our best drive of the year." It culminated with a 10-yard scoring run by De Pham to make it 21-13. The Challengers came right back, however, Gettman finding Kevin Roberts for a 59-yard score. "We really felt like we had some momentum," said Prock. "We were within a score of tying them, then that pass kind of took the air out of us. We basically never threatened from then on." Cascade Christian’s offense exuded balance, with 249 rushing yards and 211 passing yards. Defensively, it limited the Pirates to minus 5 yards rushing in 29 attempts. Sha carried 12 times for 81 yards and had two catches for 43 yards. Nick Gomez led the ground game with 98 yards on a dozen carries. Gettman was 11-of-21 passing and wasn’t picked off, while Roberts hauled in six of the strikes for 153 yards. "They just outmanned us," said Prock. "We couldn’t block them." Glendale, traditionally a powerhouse, lost offensive and defensive lineman Jeremiah Griffith in a car accident two weeks ago. Last week, star running back Damon Glover injured a knee and sat out against the Challengers.
