M. L. Erickson, supervisor of the forestry service for this district, met with them, the cooperation of his service being offered whenever possible. A large attendance participated in the business of the meeting. George W. Owen of Ashland is president and Fred Neil, also of Ashland, is secretary. Committees were appointed to take up matters of seasonal interest and take care of them in time for the use of the range in that district this year to the best advantage. Drift fences and their locations were discussed, sources of water supply, their development for more water this year and their protection were arranged for and many other matters of interest to those whose stock use that range. It was the opinion of a number of those who attended the meeting today that this will be a good range year, the wild grasses having started vigorously and the moisture being much more abundant than it was at this time last year. SCHOOLS TO CLOSE FOR VACATION MAY 23 The school board discovered at its regular meeting Tuesday evening that it had exceeded the budget estimate in one of its departments by the amount of $22.75. Superintendent Hillis reported that a saving of $800 had been effected on teachers' salaries by a rearrangement. The Medford schools will close officially May 23. The commencement exercises will be held Friday, May 19. It was decided to ask State Superintendent Churchill to deliver the address. The exercises will probably be held in the Page theater. The charge of $75 delays the final choice. The appointment of teachers for next year will be made at a special meeting of the board. Directors Palmer, Seely, Berrian, Lawton and Gore and Clerk Stine were present. LOCAL AND PERSONAL F. S. Bramwell of the Utah-Oregon Sugar Co., was a Medford visitor Tuesday. He has promised the people of Sutherlin that he will build a sugar factory there for the 1917 crop — one of a half-dozen already promised.
