Freeway plan neighbors go to council City Council Meeting When : 7 p.m. Where : third floor, City Hall, 411 W. Eighth St. A group that wants no part of the massive south Medford freeway fix plans to petition the City Council for relief tonight. The group, which calls itself Citizens for the Preservation of Established Neighborhoods, says it has more than 800 signatures asking the City Council to leave Groveland Avenue alone. Traffic engineers have included the neighborhood among several re-routing options designed to ease traffic congestion at the notorious south Medford interchange with Interstate 5. The option, one of seven, would connect Ellendale Drive to Groveland Avenue. Public hearings will begin once the options are narrowed to three. Organizers believe the Groveland plan would ruin the neighborhood and damage property values. The ultimate goal is to provide a straight north-south route through southeast Medford and bypass the congested freeway interchange.
