Former Crater star wins Pac-10 title CORVALLIS - Former Crater High standout and current University of Oregon wrestler Tony Overstake won his first career conference title Sunday in the Pac-10 Championships at Gill Coliseum. Overstake, along with two other individual champions, helped the Ducks to a second-place finish behind Boise State. Oregon closed out with 115.5 points to Boise State's 123. Oregon State took fourth with 83.5, while Arizona State finished third at 103.5 and Cal Poly fifth at 72.5. Oregon achieved its highest conference finish and most individual champions since 1989. Overstake, a junior, followed teammate Shaun Williams' win at 125 pounds, with a 10-7 victory at 157 over Jeremiah Jarvis of California-Davis. Overstake took an early lead over Jarvis, scoring on a takedown with 2:30 left in the first period. Jarvis tied the match at two-all with a reversal and Overstake escaped to take a 3-2 lead heading into the second period. Overstake scored on an escape and a takedown in the second period, but Jarvis narrowed the score, 6-4 with a reversal as time expired in the period. Jarvis then tied the match with a takedown in the third period, but Overstake outscored his opponent 4-1 for the final tally. Oregon freshman and another former Crater High standout Shane Webster bounced back from defeat on Saturday to pick up two wins and a third-place finish. He joins seven other Ducks as qualifiers for the national tournament in Albany, N.Y. on March 21-23. The eight national tournament bids is the most for Oregon since 1981. Webster won by medical forfeit in the consolation semifinals then scored a major decision, 13-4 victory over third-seeded Pat Owens of Boise State at 174. Oregon's Jake Leair, a Grants Pass High graduate, fell to Portland State's Randy Davidson by injury default in the semifinals then dropped a 10-4 decision to Jacob McGinnis of Boise State in the fifth-place final. Stanford's Matt Gentry of Merlin advanced to the 149-pound final but was pinned by Collin Robertson of Boise State in 4:53. Cave Junction's Jed Pennell lost a 10-3 decision to Cal Poly's Brody Barrios in the fifth-place final at 165 for Oregon State.
