"I apologize tremendously. I wasn't in my right state of mind. That's not me," Glueck said, adding he was under the influence of methamphetamine and alcohol at the time. Noting that the combination of drugs and criminal activity is one he sees often in his courtroom, Mejia sentenced Glueck to approximately five years and eight months in prison, with credit for time served. He also was given three years' post-prison supervision and more than $1,200 in fines and fees. Restitution will be determined at a later date. Glueck has remained lodged at the Jackson County Jail on $500,000 bail since his arrest. Charges of first-degree robbery, third-degree robbery and second-degree theft were dismissed in the plea agreement negotiated between Glueck's public defender, Robert Abel, and Karen Loomis, the county prosecutor. According to reports, Glueck entered the store in the Medford Center shortly before 10 p.m. on June 24 with a bandana covering the lower half of his face, and threatened the female clerk with a knife. She yelled to the customers for help as Glueck forced open the cash register and snatched some cash. Two men who were in the business grabbed Glueck and wrestled with him while another woman called police. Fearing Glueck still had his weapon, the clerk used a "stun gun" to help subdue him, Loomis said. Loomis said the two male patrons told her they simply wanted Glueck to receive whatever punishment the court deemed appropriate. But, she added, the 22-year old clerk wanted Glueck and the judge to know she is still struggling emotionally with the after-effects of the botched robbery. She suffers from nightmares, takes anxiety medicine and no longer feels safe at night, Loomis said. "He emotionally damaged her," she said, adding Glueck had been in the Purple Parrot earlier in the week. "She thought he was nice."
