The RiverDogs scored a seven-inning, 11-1 victory over the Eugene Blue Sox in the opener, then rallied for a 7-4 win in Game 2 to improve to 4-0 on the season. Brett Timmerman went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Matt Skundrick and Derrick Draper each had two hits apiece in the opener. Ken Strate went 2-for-3 and had a two-run single in the second inning of Game 2 to even the score at 2-all. Eugene surged ahead 4-2 with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. But Blake St. Onge answered for Southern Oregon with a three-run triple to right-center field in the bottom half. Advertisement Jeremy Frantz provided the final blow in the fifth with a two-run single to score Matt Smith and Ryan Garrett. Mike McInerney picked up the pitching win in the second game following three innings of scoreless relief and John Jefferson tossed five innings of four-hit ball for the victory in Game 1. The RiverDogs take the field again on Friday with a 5 p.m. doubleheader against the Bend Elks at Miles. American Legion Baseball MEDFORD MUSTANGS 15, ALOHA KNIGHTS 2 — At Aloha , the Mustangs jump on the Knights early and never looked back in the American Legion AAA contest. Medford (5-3) took advantage of several Aloha errors to push eight runs across in the first inning. Justin Meyer and Dan Chancler hit back-to-back home runs in the second to help the Mustangs pull away further. Rick Imhausen earned the victory. Charles Behnke finished 3-for-6 with four RBIs, while Allen Smith was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Tyler Heil was 2-for-6 with two RBIs. The Mustangs play host to the Bay Area Rams in a doubleheader Tuesday at Miles Field. PHOENIX BUCS 8-5, NORTH MEDFORD MAVERICKS 7-7 — At Talent, Chad Walker singled home Dustin Smith with the game-winning run in the opener for Phoenix in an American Legion A game at Hagler-James Field. Smith reached base five times — three hits and two walks — and finished three runs and two RBIs. Walker also had three hits to go with three RBIs and Josh Lorton went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Logan Odom had three hits to lead North Medford in Game 1. The Mavericks jumped to a 6-1 lead in the nightcap and held on for the win. Leadoff hitter Tony Salamone went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Odom added a pair of hits with two runs. Jon West led the Bucs (1-3) with three hits, while Ryan Harvey went 2-for-3. Softball NORTH MEDFORD SPLITS A PAIR OF GAMES — At Las Vegas, the North Medford Black Tornado 18A fastpitch team rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Eugene North Stars on the final day of play at the JO Classic. The Black Tornado closed out the tournament with an 8-7 loss to Lake Breeze, of Seattle. In the opening game, North trailed 2-1 entering the bottom half of the seventh. Stephanie Haskett had two hits to lead the offense, while Mallorie Hoover picked up the pitching win. North rallied from a 6-1 deficit to take a 7-6 lead against Lake Breeze but couldn’t hold it. Darcy Cordell and Denay Martin each had two hits and Stousland drove in a pair of runs to lead North.
