That’s all the Cascade Christian boys basketball team is asking for. After taking care of business Friday night at Superior Gym, the Challengers hope a Southern Cascade League playoff against Lost River, not a coin flip, will determine whether they advance to the postseason for the 16th straight year. Cascade routed Glendale, 63-43, to lock up a tie for third place with Lost River in the SCL standings. Both teams finish 8-6, and the Challengers are 12-12 overall. Advertisement The squads split their season series, neither defeated the two teams ahead of them in the league standings — champion Bonanza and second-place St. Mary’s — and they ended up with the same total in a point-difference tiebreaker formula, so a deadlock remains. Cascade head coach Brian Morse is petitioning league coaches and athletic directors for a Monday playoff game at a neutral site, as opposed to a deciding coin flip. The ruling will be made today. Whatever happens, the winner travels to Big Fir League No. 2 Reedsport as the SCL’s No. 3 seed in the first round of the Class 2A state playoffs Thursday. "Let’s let the kids decide it, not a coin flip," Morse said. "Nobody wants their season ended by a coin flip — at least I don’t." The Challengers had four players score in double figures to ensure Glendale wouldn’t end their season. Senior guard Ben Kinney scored 13 points, freshman forward Josh Heidegger combined 11 points with nine rebounds, freshman guard Josh Smith had 11 points and senior forward Isaac Hoffman tallied 10. The Pirates (2-12 SCL) were paced by Ben Fleming’s game-high 21 points. "It was a good performance," Morse said. "It was a game we definitely had to have." Now Cascade just hopes to have another one. MARY’S 56, RIDDLE 55 — Senior Michael Stout hit a free throw with four seconds left to give host St. Mary’s (14-7, 12-2 SCL) a win in the regular-season finale. The Crusaders, the SCL’s No. 2 seed, host the West Valley League’s No. 3 team on Thursday in a Class 2A state subtournament game. Riddle’s last-second heave from midcourt fell just short to give coach Tim Pflug a win in his final SCL contest. Pflug, who has compiled a 53-3 record in league play over the past four seasons, will step down as the Crusaders’ coach at season’s end. Rich Kaimie led all scorers with 18 points and Stout, playing his first year of varsity basketball after missing three seasons due to injury, grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Crusaders’ leading scorers Garrett Fiddler and Austin Grant sat out the game as a precautionary measure with minor injuries. Skyline A Boys POWERS 39, BUTTE FALLS 37 — At Myrtle Creek, Butte Falls shot a season-low 30 percent (17 of 57) from the floor during a loss at the Skyline A League tournament at South Umpqua High. The Loggers (20-4 overall) take the league’s No. 3 seed on the road to face third-ranked Columbia Christian next Saturday in Portland in a Class 1A state regional contest. Powers took only 32 shots, making 16, and used its slow-down offensive tactics to throw the normally high-scoring Loggers off track. Derek Burns led Butte Falls with 15 points, while Kelly Harrington added 14 points and nine rebounds. Mitch Allen scored 11 to pace the Cruisers. BUTTE FALLS (37) — C. Stephenson 1, T.
