Oliveira, of Eagle Point, Ore. passed away, Wednesday, March 2, 2016 in Medford. He was born June 21, 1939 to Maria de Oliveira and Fernando de Oliveira on the island of San Jorge, in the Azores, Portugal. In 1957, John moved to California’s central valley and then on to San Jose where he met and later married Nellie Sue Brooks December 12, 1965. It was during this time that John left the family dairy and started a career in landscaping which became his lifelong passion. He turned that passion into a business, which sparked many meaningful and lasting friendships. In 1971, John moved to the Rogue Valley with his wife, Nellie, his son, John, and his daughter, Joann. He continued his landscaping business and developed a family nursery, where he could propagate, graft, and grow trees to sell, and share his love of landscape. Many people remember his big hands, loud voice with a thick Portuguese accent, and his incredible waterfalls, gazebos, and landscape designs. John will now be able to join his beloved wife, Nellie, in eternal life. He is survived by his son, John Oliveira Jr and his daughter-in-law Mary Oliveira of Central Point, Ore.; his granddaughter, Lanae Oliveira Veteto; grandson-in-law Austin Veteto; and great-grandson, Braxton Veteto of Spanish Fork, Utah; his daughter, Joann Reed, son-in-law, Brian Reed and his grandson, Mason Reed of Central Point, Ore. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 5:00 p.m., Monday, March 7, 2016 followed by the Funeral Mass, held the next day at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. There will be a private interment at Eastwood Cemetery Mausoleum, where John will be placed next to his wife, Nellie. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.
