SOC roundup Caveman defense suffocates Eagle Point, 21-0 GRANTS PASS -- Grants Pass used a suffocating defense and three long touchdown drives to pin a 21-0 loss on Eagle Point at Mel Ingram Field in Southern Oregon Conference football on Friday night. The Cavemen covered 62 yards on 12 plays, all rushing, for a touchdown on their first possession of the game. Brandon Hamada, who accounted for 56 of the yards, completed the drive with a 4-yard run. In the third quarter, Chuck Martin broke a trap play for a 25-yard touchdown to complete a 68-yard drive. Grants Pass completed its scoring on the second play of the fourth quarter when Grant Slagle hauled in a 27-yard scoring pass from quarterback Cory Restvedt to finish off a 72-yard march. Hamada led Grants Pass with 122 yards on the ground and Martin added 102 rushing. While the Cavemen methodically moved down the field for scores and accumulated 374 yards in offense, Eagle Point never came close to the end zone. The Eagles were held to 82 yards rushing and 9 passing. Linebacker Matt Major and strong safety Martin played major roles in GP's stellar defense effort. Class 2A BONANZA 47, ST. MARY'S 6 --Andy Kneff ran for more than 200 yards and five touchdowns as Bonanza broke away from injury-riddled St. Mary's in a Southern Cascade League game. The Crusaders trailed only 7-6 late in the first period but then lost both of its starting wingbacks, J.P. Naumes and Alex Duncan. Naumes sprained his ankle while Duncan suffered a hip-pointer. Before the night was through the Crusaders (3-4) lost three other players to injury. They started the game with only 18 players in uniform. Brian Hammers scored on a 4-yard run for Cascade Christian. The Challengers gained 129 yards on the ground and Hammers accounted for 68 of that on 23 carries. Bennett's final TD, a 17-yard run in the third period, ended the game on the 45-point mercy rule. Tim Howard scored the game's first touchdown for Prospect on a 4-yard run, but the Sailors encountered little resistence the rest of the way as they collected their sixth win in seven games. For the second consecutive week, Charlie McLauchlan scored on a long touchdown run for the Loggers. McLauchlan went 62 yards for a first-quarter touchdown. Elkton quarterback Seth Williamson passed for one touchdown and scored two more on the ground. Williamson picked up 64 yards on three carries, while Cody Gray had 86 yards on three carries and one TD.
