Medford attorney job goes to Doyle A longtime Medford city official will take over the reins as city attorney. Ron Doyle, a senior assistant city attorney, was promoted to the top spot of the city's law department. He has been an assistant in the department for 15 years. Doyle will replace City Attorney Gene Hart, who has worked for the city for more than 20 years and who will retire at the end of this month. The appointment is the last of several recent changes at Medford City Hall. In the past year, five department heads are new or being replaced. The tally of new faces includes Medford City Manager Michael Dyal, who took over last June. In addition, longtime Medford Mayor Jerry Lausmann retired after serving 12 years. Doyle has a bachelor of arts degree in English from the University of California, Berkeley, and received his law degree from Golden Gate University Law School in San Francisco. He was in general law practice in Corvallis for three years before joining the city of Medford in August 1983. He received certification as a Chinese interpreter from the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, Calif., in 1971. From 1984 to 1988, he was a Chinese language instructor for Southern Oregon University and the university's Division of Continuing Education, teaching beginning and intermediate Chinese language and history. In his post with the city, Doyle has had primary responsibility for land-use issues, risk management civil and criminal litigation, law enforcement, parks and recreation and planning functions.
