Fillies capture region title, to skip nationals By KEVIN GOFF SEATTLE -- The Oregon Fillies posted three wins Sunday to claim the championship in the 18-under Northwest Regional Softball Tournament. The Fillies defeated Sudden Impact of Salem twice Sunday, including once in the championship game, 2-0. They earlier beat the Salem team 3-1. The other win came against the Magic Madness from Olympia, Wash., by a score of 6-0. Stephanie Coe pitched a complete game shutout in the championship game over Salem, surrendering only two hits while striking out four. Megumi Hackett and Coe each had six hits on the day. Teammate Erin Glantz tallied five hits in eight plate appearances, and Stephanie Adams went 4-for-8. The Fillies won't play in the national tourney in Sioux Falls, S.D., due to injuries to some key players. "Hackett, Adams and Glantz had some key hits for us today," said coach Larry Binney, who coached the three on North Medford High state semifinal team. "We didn't finish the high school season like we wanted to, but it felt nice spending these last few games coaching these girls. We went out on top together."
