Does that part go away when the bond is paid off? Also, if it does, then what year is the 549C bond paid off? The Jackson County bond? The RCC bond? — Joe H., via email Joe, when the bond is paid off, it goes away, but we regret to inform you that you’ll be paying on those particular bonds for the next five to 20 years. The $38.9 million Jackson County library bond was approved by voters in 2000 and went toward renovating and building libraries for 14 local branches. It will expire in 2019-2020. The $189 million 549C bond was passed in 2006 and will expire in 2034. It covered the cost of replacing two schools and renovating several others. The work was completed in 2010, and the bond was refinanced earlier this year to save taxpayers about $10.5 million over the remaining course of the bond debt. However, depending on how much property you own, it may have only made the difference of a few dollars on your statement. And Rogue Community College’s $24 million bond was passed in 2005 and covered the cost of upgrading facilities and building the Higher Education Center in downtown Medford. It expires in 2025-2026. Every year, each entity informs the Jackson County Assessor’s Office how much is needed to pay off the bonds that mature that year and that is the amount collected from property owners, explained Ruth Staten, project/program coordinator for in the Jackson County Assessor’s Office. This year, Jackson County requested about $3.11 million. The school district requested about $13.33 million, and RCC requested about $1.98 million.
