Washington driver Smith wins NST feature race WHITE CITY -- Jay Smith opened the Hy-per-Lube Northern Sprint Tour in style Saturday night, earning $1,750 for a feature win at the Southern Oregon Speedway. The Stanwood, Wash., driver won the fifth feature of his driving career, taking the 30-lap feature event in the first of two stops for the tour this season in Medford. The NST will be back on July 17. Smith took the lead early in the feature and bested the 20-car field. Washington drivers took the top three spots in the feature, with Rick Fauver finishing second and Shawna Wilskey third. Dan Menne of Fort Jones, Calif., was fifth and Bill Nutter of Central Point finished seventh in the feature. With the sprint cars in town, only two of the speedway's regular classes ran on the night. Defending track champion John Cahill raced to victory in the United Rentals super trucks and Jim Hill won the night's title in the Answer Page mini stocks. NORTHERN SPRINT TOUR HEAT 1 : 1.
