Harris sets Southern Oregon standard ASHLAND -- Erica Harris had record-setting day on the track for Southern Oregon University during a dual meet with Oregon Tech Saturday at Raider Stadium. Harris, a sophomore sprinter from Myrtle Creek, keyed the women's 92-69 victory over OIT by capturing the 200- and 400-meter races and anchoring the victorious Raider 1,600 relay. The Owl men won 12 of 18 events to down the Raiders 92-69. Harris' 25.43 seconds in the 200 was 5/100ths of a second faster than the previous school record established by former NAIA heptathlon champion Jill Carrier as a senior in 1995. Harris' previous season-best season time was 25.73. "Erica ran an amazing race considering how hard she trained leading up to this meet," Southern Oregon coach Dale Fisher said. "For her to break the school record so soon this season is very impressive. We expect her to run faster times." The Raider women posted another school record by freshman Nikki Robertson in the hammer throw. Robertson broke her own record set earlier this season with a toss of 127-2. In the discus, Robertson, who is ranked ninth nationally, came seven inches of a school record with a personal best of 147-8. SOU's other multiple winner was Kena Page of Cave Junction, who leaped a 16-8 in the long jump and 5-0 in the high jump. On the men's side, junior Mat Davis of Medford won the 200 and 400 and led the Raiders to the 1,600 relay title. The former North Medford High standout improved on his seventh-ranked NAIA 200 time with a season-best 21.79. Judson Ritsau of Grants Pass won the pole vault with a jump of 15-1 in his first meet of the season. Ritsau has been sidelined with a hamstring injury. Southern Oregon senior Bob Metcalf won the hammer throw and upped his NAIA qualifying mark to 174-1. Nels Hage was the Raiders other winner with a 156-3 mark in the discus. "We're not blessed with a lot of depth, but in a big meet we're in very good shape," said Fisher. "This sets us up pretty good heading into the championship part of our season now."
