Medford man arrested after allegedly confessing homicidal thoughts By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Aug 05, 2021 12:27 PM A A A 24-year-old former custodian at a Medford high school has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly confessing homicidal thoughts to police. An investigation began July 20 when Kristopher Clay entered the Medford Police Department lobby and allegedly told officers he had homicidal thoughts that he planned to carry out. Police transported Clay to transported Clay to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center – Behavioral Health Unit, according to a news release. “An investigation began, which resulted in several search warrants being served in various locations in Jackson County,” the release says. “Items of evidence were seized to include; ammunition, firearms, tactical gear and written material. The investigation indicated Clay made significant steps to carry out a mass casualty event.” Clay was employed as a custodian by South Medford High School, where police conducted a thorough sweep to determine there were not active threats. Clay is no longer employed by the school district, according to the release. Clay was arrested Wednesday upon his discharge from the behavioral unit and has been charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted assault, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and tampering with evidence, according to the release. A press conference with Medford police is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday. This article will be updated.
