Watch out for the walking, er, running dead on the Bear Creek Greenway Saturday, Oct. 21. The Running Dead 5K, a zombie-themed fun run sponsored by Southern Oregon Goodwill, has a twist: Runners wear flag football belts and try to keep the flags away from pursuing ghouls, according to a news release. Participants can register online prior to the race at www.sogoodwill.org/runningdead5k through Thursday, for $30 per individual. Teams of four or more can register for $25 per person. Non-runners who wish to be zombies lurking on the course can sign up for $40 per individual or $35 for teams of four or more. The Southern Oregon Subaru Kid's Survivor Sprint, intended for kids ages 4-8, costs $15. Entry fees will be $5 more for individual or team entrants registering on race day. Proceeds from the races will support Goodwill services. Registration and packet pickup opens at 8:30 a.m. in Pear Blossom Park. A free zombie makeup booth run by Ro Sham Bo Salon opens at 9 a.m. The Southern Oregon Subaru Kid's Survivor Sprint starts at 10:30 a.m. In that race, kids run around the park, collecting "survival swag" in backpacks provided to them. The main 5K race starts at 11:15 a.m. An "Apocalypse Party" follows at noon at Common Block Brewing Company, 315 E. Fifth St., Medford. There will also be a Drop Dead Beauty contest.
