Severta Shipley Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jan. 3, 2015 at 2:00 AM Posted Jan. 3, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Social News Severta Shipley went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, December 31, 2014. She was surrounded by family and friends at the time of her passing. Severta was born in Alpena, Ark. August 17, 1933 to George and Inice Bowman. The family moved to Upland, Calif. when she was 8 years old. When she was 11 years old she befriended a girl named Dorothy Irvin, who later became Dorothy Trimmer, and they remained best friends throughout their lives. On May 13, 1950, when she was 16 and he 17, she married Ed (Fincher) Shipley, who survives. Had she lived a few months longer, they would have celebrated 65 years of marriage an amazing testimony of love and commitment to each other. She is also survived by her sisters, Annabelle Womack and Jean Stange; and many nieces and nephews; two children, Debra (Shipley) Cate and Tom Shipley; eight grandchildren, Brad Cate, Amy (Cate) Deusebio, Julie (Cate) Kinnen, Ryan Shipley, David Cate, Andrew Shipley, Daniel Shipley, and Kara Shipley; and by eight great-grandchildren, all of whom loved her dearly. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren referred to her fondly as Gigi. Even the friends of her children and grand-children loved her and enjoyed her company. Influenced by their good friends, Bob and Dorothy Trimmer, Ed and Severta moved from Southern California to Medford, Ore. in 1966. In 1968, they started the heating and air conditioning company, Metal Masters, Inc. with two other partners. Within 7 years they had full ownership of the company and ran the business until they sold it to family members in 1998. Severta was very active in her church, West Main Church of Christ, until her death. She taught Sunday School and was involved in other ministries there. Her loving influence on countless people, especially children, will be remembered for years to come. A service celebrating her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2015 at West Main Church of Christ, 1701 W. Main St., Medford. Please come prepared to share any fond story you remember of Severta, and sing the hymns she loved to sing as we celebrate her home-going to the place her Savior had prepared for her.
