Mission accomplished. The Panthers (5-5 SOC) held Huyett to five points. However, the stifling of Huyett opened the door for Alysse Carlson’s four 3-point goals, and her 15 points led the Grizzlies (8-2 SOC) to a 54-39 Southern Oregon Conference win. "It’s hard for teams to stop both Hilary and Alysse," said Ashland coach Steve Humann. "South had a pretty good game plan and they played a hard, good game." Huyett did get open for a 3-pointer as the buzzer ended the third quarter to put Ashland up by seven. While Huyett was giving Ashland some breathing room, Marla Morin, the 6-foot-1 senior post, pulled down 17 rebounds — 14 in the second half alone. Morin also had 12 points. "Everytime I looked up, there was 34 (Morin)," Humann said. "She put the whole team on her back and said ‘Let’s go.’" Jamie Roupp came off the bench late in the first quarter and promptly hit two 3-pointers to give Ashland a 14-9 lead after one period. South Medford’s Natasha Wright led all scorers with 16 points.
