The American Legion baseball team got solid pitching, played errorless defense and piled up 18 runs during a non-league doubleheader sweep of the Oroville Olives on Tuesday. The scores were 7-2 and 11-0 in six innings. Medford was scheduled to play Redding in a doubleheader today but it was canceled after eight of Redding’s players were suspended for disciplinary reasons. "No errors and great pitching — that wins ball games," said Medford manager Sandee Kensinger, whose team improved to 19-7 with the sweep. "The big thing for us was, we wanted to play everyone. We did, and everyone contributed. It was a group effort. Oroville pitcher Bryce Chamberlain shut out Medford for six of the seven innings in Game 1, but the Mustangs raked him for six hits and seven runs in the fourth inning to overcome a 2-0 deficit. Advertisement Rob Folsom had two hits in the inning and winning pitcher Chad Hegdahl had a double. Folsom and Hegdahl each had two hits in Game 1. Josh Suarez and Tim Holtz combined on a three-hit shutout in the nightcap. That game was close until the sixth inning, when Medford again posted a seven- run inning. Corey O’Neill’s two-run double capped the uprising. O’Neill and Tyler Heil each had two hits in Game 2. Medford returns to action Friday at Miles Field with a 6 p.m. doubleheader against Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s. SOUTH MEDFORD 6-12, EAGLE POINT 4-2 — South Medford picked up its 10th and 11th wins in its last 12 games with a doubleheader sweep of Eagle Point in Area 4 play. Ryan Odell went 2-for-2 in Game 1 and smacked a solo home run — his first of the year — in the opening inning. Nick Donato and Eric Mobbs each added two hits apiece, while Marcus James recorded his fifth pitching win in six decisions. Kyle Snyder led the Eagles with two hits and two RBIs. Jared Adamson’s 3-for-4 performance at the plate led a 16-hit attack in the five-inning nightcap victory for the Colts, who improved to 13-7 overall and 9-7 in league play. Zach Wilson added two hits and an RBI and Tom George scattered five hits over his five innings of work to notch the win. Little League Baseball DISTRICT 6 TOURNAMENT — At Klamath Falls, Ashland improved to 2-0 in pool play with a 21-0 victory over Klamath Basin at the 11-12-year- old all-star tournament. Pitchers Ian Reynolds-Kendall, Hayden Miller and Nick Hall combined to shut out Klamath. Offensivelly, Miller had three hits and four RBIs. Hall also had three hits, while Alex Nagel belted a two-run home run and totaled four RBIs. Reynolds- Kendall drove in a team-high five runs and Luke Baldrica had three hits and scored three times. On Monday, Ashland opened pool play with a 23-2 route of Or-Cal. Four Ashland pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter, while Nagel led the offense with five RBIs and Baldrica three. Reynolds-Kendall had a pair of hits to go with four RBIs and Hall scored four runs. Ashland continues pool play today at 6 p.m. against Upper Rogue. In other pool play action, Medford American Blue rode Matt Maurer’s no-hitter to a 2-1 victory over Medford American Red. Maurer walked three and finished with 14 strikeouts. Shaun Whitehead pitched well in defeat for Medford American Red, giving up seven hits in the complete-game performance. Red scored a single run in the third but Medford American Blue answered with two in the bottom half. Malcom Purdy drove home the tying run with a double and came around to score the eventual game-winner one batter later. Medford Blue takes on Klamath Basin today at 3:30 p.m., while Medford Red has a bye. DISTRICT 6 9-10-YEAR-OLD TOURNAMENT — At Klamath Falls, Blaine Howitt hit a two-run single and Matt Retzlaff clubbed a two-run double as Medford Red scored six runs in the fourth inning to rally to a 15-11 victory over Klamath Falls South Suburban. Howitt, Retzlaff, Brian Carbonell, Sam Reid, Luke Happeny and winning pitcher Will Kunkle all had two hits for Medford Red, which moved to 2-0 in pool play. DISTRICT 8 9-10-YEAR-OLD TOURNAMENT — At Gold Hill, Jake Eilenberger fired a one-hit shutout to lead the Medford Nationals to a 19-0 victory over Gold Valley to complete pool play at the District 8 Little League Tournament for 9-10 year-olds. The Nationals finished pool play with a 3-1 record and will play Central Point Thursday at 6 p.m. in a championship semifinal game. Jack Walker had a single and a triple and Cody Atchley had a single and a double to fuel Medford’s hitting attack. In other 9-10-year-old games, Grants Pass American finished pool play at 4-0 following a 12-2 victory over Medford Federal Black. DISTRICT 8 11-YEAR-OLD TOURNAMENT — At Gold Hill, Grants Pass American improved to 3-0 in pool play with a 10-2 victory over Medford Nationals. In the other pool play contest on Tuesday, Central Point improved to 2-1 with a narrow, 3-1 victory over Illinois Valley. Medford Federal plays Gold Valley and Central Point clashes with Grants Pass today.
