Butte Falls performed Molloy’s half-court trap efficiently and avenged its only loss in Skyline A League Southern Division girls basketball with a 55-38 win over Paisley Saturday. The victory protected the 10th-ranked Loggers’ division lead, while Paisley dropped to 6-3 in league play. Butte Falls (14-6, 8-1 Sky A) blitzed the Broncos early with the defensive pressure and raced to a 15-2 first-quarter lead. "The girls came out real focused," Butte Falls coach B.J. Rodgers said. "We ran the half-court press, and that definitely set the tone." Advertisement Butte Falls senior point guard Brianna Smeltz came up with three of her four steals in the opening period, and the Loggers converted six steals for layins in the quarter. The Loggers built the lead to 27-8 by halftime, and Paisley never challenged after intermission. Senior post Sarah Matthews paced Butte Falls with 16 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two blocks. The Loggers outrebounded Paisley, 32-16, and forced the Broncos into 24 turnovers. "Our defense in the first half was the key to the game," said Rodgers. "It completely took them out of their game." PAISLEY (38) — St. Louis 0, L. Carlon 9, O’Leary 0, S. Carlon 13, H.
