Mike Allen and Jesse Stevenson would do the rest on the mound as the RiverDogs held on for a 4-3 victory. The RiverDogs cruised to a 9-2 win in the opener. Southern Oregon trailed 1-0 until Foster’s blast with one out in the fifth inning put the RiverDogs (10-6) ahead to stay. Allen pitched five innings in the nightcap to record his first victory of the season and Phil Ouellette extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a 2-for-2 performance. Advertisement In Game 1, Bill Rowe had four hits, while John Jefferson added three hits and three RBIs and Chuck Shine went 2-for-5 with three RBIS. Derrick Draper also had two hits for Southern Oregon, which hosts a team from San Francisco on Friday at Miles Field. FIRST GAME S.O. American Legion MEDFORD MUSTANGS 10-12, CHICO NUTS 0-1 — Mike Allen had five hits and scored three runs over both games of a non-conference doubleheader sweep for the Medford Mustangs at Miles Field. The Mustangs (22-1) needed just six innings in the opener then trimmed it down to five in the nightcap due to the 10-run mercy rule in both cases. Reese Lamson went 3-for-3 in Game 1 for the Mustangs, which pounded out 16 hits. Brett Timmerman gave up two hits and needed only 44 pitches during the complete-game effort for his second win against no losses. Beau Hovland ran his record to 4-0 with the win in Game 2. Jimmy Ulrey and Chad Hegdahl each had two hits and scored two and three runs, respectively. The Mustangs hit the road on Tuesday with an Area 4 doubleheader at the Eugene Pepsi Challengers. NORTH JACKSON ROYALS 12-2, GRANTS PASS DIGGERS 2-3 — At Grants Pass, the North Jackson Royals American Legion team committed eight errors during a loss in Game 2 to the Grants Pass Diggers. The Diggers, a Senior Babe Ruth team, scored the winning run on a fielders’ choice in the bottom of the ninth inning. Ricky O’Callahan went the distance for the Royals (6-9), striking out six and giving up just three hits, while working out of jams in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings before Grants Pass broke through in the ninth. Ryan Augino’s two-run single in the sixth inning had tied the game at 2-all. In the opener, Augino and O’Callahan each had three hits during the seven-inning rout.
