Left fielder Dan Mayer highlighted a night in which the Rogues (19-22) set a franchise record for runs (19) and hits (20) in a game when he belted a three-run home run with two outs in the second inning to give Medford a 4-3 lead. The home run was Mayer’s 11th of the summer, breaking the previous WCL record for home runs in a season of 10 set by Vince Fernandez of Yakima Valley in 2014. The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Mayer, who is a sophomore at the University of Pacific, finished 4-for-6 with four runs and three RBIs to pace Medford. For the Rogues, Billy Fredrick was 2-for-3 with one run and four RBIs, Nathan Etheridge 3-for-5 with three runs and one RBI, John Kinne 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, Jimmy Wright 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI and Daniel Patzlaff 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Brock Pradere also drove in three runs and scored twice with two walks on a 1-for-2 night for Medford, which led 16-3 after the fifth inning. Pradere, Fredrick and Tim Lichty each had triples in the Rogues’ nine-run fifth inning. Jackson Bertsch earned the pitching victory after allowing only two earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks through five innings. Bellingham (26-15), which leads the WCL West, scored seven of its 11 runs in the final three innings. Chris Beal was 3-for-6 and K.J. Brady 3-for-5 for the Bells, who got two RBIs apiece from Walker Olis and Chase Scott. Medford, which is third in the WCL South, will go in search of the series sweep at 6:35 tonight at Harry & David Field. American Legion AAA MEDFORD 7, KLAMATH FALLS 6, 10 inn.: Eric Carlson smacked a walk-off home run over the left field fence in the 10th inning to complete a comeback win in Medford’s state tournament tuneup at North Medford High. Carlson finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, while Colton Westfall was 2-for-4 with one run and two RBIs and Austin Zavala 2-for-3 with one run for the Mustangs (34-11). Medford rallied from a 6-2 deficit in the eighth inning against the Klamath Falls Senior Babe Ruth Cardinals with a two-out rally. Aaron Hutchinson started it off with a double and then scored on a double by Carlson. After an RBI double by Westfall, Greyson Wolff walked and then Cole Carder supplied a two-run double to cap the four-run outburst. The Mustangs will open the state tournament in Salem at 4 p.m. Wednesday against the Albany Mid-Valley Rockets. American Legion A NORTH MEDFORD 12-14, ASHLAND 0-4: At Ashland, North Medford brothers Larson and Honus Kindreich combined on a no-hitter in the six-inning first game and the Mavericks used a nine-run outburst in the fourth inning to win the five-inning nightcap and sweep the Area 4 doubleheader at North Mountain Park. The Kindreichs each struck out four batters in their respective three innings of work, and Honus Kindreich also went 2-for-3 with five RBIs behind a three-run single in the third inning and two-run double in the sixth. Berry Hunt went the distance on a five-hitter in Game 2 for North Medford (40-7-1, 22-2 Area 4) and helped his cause by going 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs. Dakota Adams added an RBI double in the third inning. The Mavericks, who have won 18 straight games, next open state tournament play at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Grants Pass.
