The Raiders (22-6) extended their home-court win streak to 16 straight dating back to last season and topped the Owls (16-12) for the eighth time since 2002 with a 30-26, 30-23, 30-15 victory. Senior outside hitter Kristin Ferris, who was named the conference’s Most Valuable Player in the post-match awards ceremony, compiled 14 kills and 12 digs, and freshman outside hitter Jaclyn Hamilton-Smith posted a match-high and season-best 17 kills in 30 swings to fuel the powerful Raider attack. Hamilton-Smith helped Southern overcome a 25-24 Owl lead in Game 1 with three late-game kills, and junior all-star middle blocker Nicholette Le Bel posted nearly half of her nine kills and eight blocks in Game 2 after OIT had staked a 9-6 advantage. Raider defenders Kristen Lilly, Haley Phillips and Ashley Garboden combined for 33 of the team’s 61 digs. Advertisement "We’re playing good volleyball at a great time of the year," Raider coach Paul Elliott said. "We received great defensive efforts and a tremendous performance from Jaclyn." The Owls, who upset the tournament’s No. 2 and 3 seeds Friday to advance to the Klamath Falls school’s first-ever volleyball championship event, received 10 kills from junior middle Marcie Mitzner and 13 digs and 32 assists from all-star setter Megan Albertson. SOU hit .261 for the match (52 kills in 134 attempts), and OIT went 39-for-133 for a .105 efficiency. Despite the setback, the Techsters will be among the six-team NAIA Region I tournament field for the first time since the program was resurrected in 1998. The regional tourney, which yields a berth to next month’s NAIA Championships to the champion, will be seeded tonight and unveiled at www.sousports.com . Pool play matches will be held Thursday with the top four teams advancing to the semifinal round on Friday. The championship is 7 p.m. Saturday. SOU is hosting the event for the first time since 1992. Men’s Basketball HOLY NAMES 100, SOUTHERN OREGON 98, OT — At Oakland, Calif., Southern Oregon suffered its second last-second setback in as many nights with an overtime decision at Holy Names University. The 16th-ranked Raiders, who lost at the buzzer at Notre Dame de Namur Friday night, fell to 0-2 when junior All-American forward Shea Washington was called for an offensive foul that erased a potential game-winning inside shot with SOU trailing 99-98. Washington, who amassed the school’s sixth-highest game scoring output with 42 points, converted two free throws with 2.3 seconds left to knot the score at 89-all at the end of regulation. Southern shot 57-percent for the game and led by as much as 16 in the second half before four Raiders fouled out. Senior guard Brad Coen scored 17 for SOU.
