LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Letters to the editor: Dec. 9 Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Dec. 9, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Dec. 9, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News My family needs ACA My family needs health insurance coverage. My family includes children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. If Congress gets rid of the Affordable Care Act, what will they put in its place? Republicans need to offer a "solution," before they destroy the "problem." George Fibance Medford The real entitlements Instead of finding ways to cut SSI and Medicare (entitlements), Congress should stop funding the real entitlements — IRS, EPA, TSA — and every other acronym in government. They get an increase regardless of inflation. Stop the hiring and cut them 5 percent. Then you have the H1B visas that allow companies to import foreign workers for less pay. They can stay for up to three years with an extension for another three years. Then they will be lost in the system and our government won't care whether they are here or not. Oregon added 4,400 jobs in August, 2,800 in the private sector and 1,600 public employees. Figuring that some of the 1,600 were filling open positions it seems like quite a few compared to the 2,800 private sector — and how many of the 2,800 were bus drivers going back to work? September was even better. We lost 5,300 jobs and apparently none of them were government jobs. If there is an article in the paper referring to a state or federal grant, it is your tax money at work. See where it is going and if you think it is a good use of your money. R. Hammer Ruch An inhabitable earth Mr. Krempa warns us about the "real agenda" promoted by Mr. Journet and the climate-change "so-called progressives" in his Dec. 4 letter. Could it be something so nefarious as leaving an inhabitable earth for future generations? It seems clear to me Mr. Krempa and other "so-called climate change" deniers have their own agenda: to make sure they get their justly deserved earthly rewards here and now. To heck with the future. Jeffrey Judkins Jacksonville Arming the public Can someone, anyone, explain to me why assault weapons are readily available to the general public? I don't seem to get it. What is it again that these weapons are designed for? John Kloetzel Ashland Illegal pesticide use This is in regard to your article on the front page of the Nov. 19 Mail Tribune. I don’t care what the Oregon Dept of Agriculture says. Under federal law it's illegal to use any pesticide on any crop unless that crop is specifically listed on the pesticide label. Last time I checked, marijuana was not listed on any pesticide label. This is ridiculous and could cause a dangerous situation. Environmental problems have already been caused by pot growers using pesticides when they’ve had no training and don’t know how to use pesticides properly. You need to talk to someone with the E.P.A. and get your facts straight. Richard Cody Applegate Merry Christmas? Did the Grinch steak Christmas? Main Street Medford looks pretty sad — no tree, no lights, sad indeed. Not everyone goes near the new tree — humbug.
