The Great West League-leading Rogues improved to 34-12 on the season, 7½ games ahead of the second-place Chico Heat and 10 over Portland as the regular season draws to a close. With only 11 games remaining in the season, Medford is close to clinching one of the inaugural league's two playoff berths. The Rogues travel to Lodi and Marysville for a pair of three-game sets after their current homestand against Sacramento, then wrap up the regular season at home with a three-game series against Chico on Aug. 9-11. Sacramento scored six runs in the ninth inning on Sunday, highlighted by a grand slam by Dylan Wright. To stop the bleeding, former North Medford High star Colton Westfall came on in relief and survived a bases-loaded situation with three straight strikeouts to pick up the save. Johnny DeLaCruz blasted his second home run of the season, a two-run shot over the left field fence to bolster the Rogues’ lead to 11-2 prior to the ninth-inning rally. Spencer Steer drove in four runs in the series opener, half on a two-run double during the Rogues’ four-run fourth inning. Conner McNally added a two-run single in the frame. In his first start of the summer, Tristan Duncan gave up two runs over six innings on four hits and two walks to go with three strikeouts. The teams will face off for Game 2 of the three-game series at 6:35 p.m. today as part of a Rogues’ promotional jersey night, where all fans wearing sports jerseys will receive $5 off a bleacher ticket.
