The community-supported nonprofit organization that owns and operates the 732-seat Craterian Theater at The Collier Center for the Performing Arts in Medford offers a diverse array of music, comedy, musical theater, dance, drama and spectacle programs in its annual season. Comedy performances will include Lewis Black's “The Rant is Due: Part Deux” show Sept. 25 and "The Wonder Bread Years," Jan. 23, featuring former Seinfeld writer Pat Hazell’s take on a Baby Boomer childhood. Musical acts include The Tenors, the Juno Award-winning Canadian quartet, Oct. 8; ukulele virtuoso and composer Jake Shimabukuro Oct. 26; Home Free, winner of NBC’s The Sing-Off in 2013, Oct. 28; and The Music of Abba: Arrival from Sweden, Feb. 17, 2016. The internationally acclaimed world beat fiddle ensemble Barrage 8 plays March 10; Queen Machine rocks the Craterian March 25; and Jim Witter’s Coffee House takes concert-goers April 1 on a multimedia pilgrimage to the ‘60s and ‘70s to feature folk music of Jim Croce, Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Harry Chapin and others. In the spectacle category, the season includes the acrobatics and aerialist feats of the French Canadian Flip Fabrique Oct. 13, the multi award-winning theatrical phenomenon "Stomp" Jan. 20, and Drum Tao, with their newest internationally touring production, "Seventeen Samurai," March 16. A Craterian holiday tradition, Tomáseen Foley’s "A Celtic Christmas," is slated for two shows Dec. 20. On Jan. 28, eligible individuals will have the chance to “Come on down” and participate in the interactive stage show "The Price is Right Live" for chances to win prizes. The Gizmo Guys, “master jugglers with ebullient energy and exquisite skills,” will present a family-oriented matinee Jan.30. Rome-based Spellbound Contemporary Ballet, “Italy’s leading contemporary dance touring company,” will perform Feb. 24. A new theatrical tour of Tony Award-winning "Ragtime" comes to the Craterian March 8. Grammy Award-winning tunes of the Bee Gees will launch disco mania with "Saturday Night Fever" April 12. "Menopause the Musical" comes April 21, and $2 of each ticket sold will be donated to Susan G. Komen. Teen Musical Theater of Oregon, Craterian Performances’ youth theater program, will perform "Peter Pan" Aug. 7-8 and 13-15; "White Christmas" Dec. 11-12 and 17-19; and "The Sound of Music" March 3-5. Craterian Performances’ Next Stage Repertory Company has three productions in 2015-16, opening with William Inge’s classic "Bus Stop" Sept.11-12 and 18-19. Next is Thomas Strelich’s "Dog Logic" Jan. 7-9, and the romantic comedy "Almost, Maine," by John Cariani April 7-9. The new Craterian Music Hall concert series is designed to present outstanding local/regional musicians in themed concerts in a theatrical setting. Upcoming shows include "Something to Talk About: A Tribute to Bonnie Raitt," featuring some of Portland’s finest performers, Nov. 6-7; "I Have a Dream: Celebrating African-American Musicians," Feb. 5-6 and 12-13; and "Legends of the Road," May 5-7. The 13th annual GingerBread Jubilee includes a gingerbread design-and-create competition, benefit auction and community tour. All proceeds from GingerBread Jubilee events help Craterian Performances present arts and culture programs, produce Teen Musical Theater of Oregon, Next Stage Repertory Company and the Music Hall series. The GingerBread Jubilee auction is Nov. 20, and the community tour is Nov. 21-23. A free April 10 community event, the 15th annual "Stars on Stage: Celebrating State Soloists," will feature Jackson County winners of the District 8 high school solo music competition. Rogue Valley Silver Stars will showcase top talent from among our region’s retirement living communities on April 16. Craterian Performances is a nonprofit organization, and contributing members receive, among other benefits, presale privileges in advance of sales to the general public. Annual memberships begin with a $50 tax-deductible contribution and support the theater’s programming and operations.
